Poor Kyler

Fifth Disease, yes thats what this horrible chicken pox, measle looking rash thing is. Thursday morning kyler woke up and had bright red cheeks, i didnt think anything of it, they were red everyday all day. Then Saturday he started getting this rash thing on his arms, then sunday it was all over his whole body. Oh my gosh, im terrified my kid has some awful disease and is gonna give it to me while im pregnant. I take him to insta care sunday night and the docotr told me that it is called fifth disease. He said he is mostly common for children ages 5-15 and some adults get it but very rare. He also said once you get it you cant get it again, good news, lol anyways he said that some people get it and dont know it because usually the signs are flu like symptoms wiwth a headach etc. They are contagious at this point but in severe cases they get this rash and by the time they get the rash they are not contagious anymore. It can last 1-3 weeks and there is nothing to cure it. He siad you can be sure to wash your hands good and have better hygiene to prevenet it because it is a virus. He said it just takes time to go away but he can go to school cuz he is not contagious, however he said make sure you have him wear long sleeves or you will get a call home from the school. He gave me a note for his teachers telling them he is not contagious, he wore a long sleeve shirt, and I still got called every day this week, I was like o my gosh doesnt the doctors note explain to you that no one can get it because its not contagious. lol i mean yes it looks like it would itch and it looks worse then it sounds but the good news is it doesnt itch and its not contagious. Its been almost a week and the rash is almost gone now so thats the good news.

Childhood Illnesses in Pregnancy: Chickenpox and Fifth Disease

Chickenpox and fifth disease are childhood illnesses that can pose risks to the fetus if a mother contracts them during pregnancy. Fortunately, most fetuses are not harmed by these illnesses. However, a pregnant woman should consult her health care provider if exposed to either of these infections, so that steps to help prevent complications for mother and baby can be taken when necessary... (Click on link for more info)

I post this not to alarm you, but to inform you. :) I worked at a daycare center where Fifth Disease and Chicken Pox ran rampant, and Kellie is fine. I just think that if you're worried, you should ask your doctor.

I hope Kyler feels better soon! It's no fun having a sick child, or being a sick child. ;)
